One continent, a handful of seas

Swap water and rock, and the planet reorganises itself completely.

Today Earth is about 29% land and 71% water. Invert it and those numbers trade places: the new world is overwhelmingly dry, and the water that is left is stranded in isolated basins.

The topology flips

The ocean is connected — you can sail from the Arctic to the Southern Ocean without ever leaving the water. So the inverted world has exactly one continent. You could walk from the middle of the former Pacific to the former Arctic without getting your feet wet.

The continents, by contrast, are separate. Each one becomes its own landlocked sea with no route to any other: a Sea of Eurasia, a Sea of Africa, an Australian Sea. Every coastline on Earth stays exactly where it is, but every one of them changes which side the water is on.

The high points become the low ones

Challenger Deep in the Mariana Trench lies 10,935 m below sea level. Inverted, it becomes the highest mountain on the planet — about 2,100 m taller than Everest. Everest itself, at 8,849 m, becomes the deepest trench in the new world.

Inland water gets stranded too. The Caspian Sea, Lake Baikal and the Great Lakes all sit inside continents, so in the inverted world they become islands floating in the middle of the new seas.
